Radfield Home Care leading the way for female franchise ownership

Founded, owned and operated by a female franchisor, Radfield Home Care is leading the way when it comes to encouraging women into franchising, with above average female employees in its support team as well as in its national network of franchise partners.

Over half of Radfield Home Care’s Franchise Support Team is made up of women, many of which hold senior managerial positions in the organisation with a wealth of care, business and franchise experience. What’s more, 64% of Radfield’s network of care at-home franchises are led, or co-led, by women.

“Within Radfield Home Care, we have a strong representation of women. Some of our franchises are entirely owned and operated by women, some are husband and wife teams with equal daily involvement, and some are male and female business partners with the day-to-day management undertaken by the women”, explains franchisor, Dr Hannah MacKechnie. “In the support team it is similar, we have women who are in control of finances, care management, as well as business and franchise specialists.”

“Women involved within the UK’s franchising sector is increasing year-on-year, but it is not just Radfield’s above average female representation that makes us unique, it is the various roles, skills and levels of involvement they all have. This highlights that the Radfield Home Care’s franchise opportunity is suitable for a wide range of people, from a wide range of backgrounds, with a wide range of skill sets – and we have the support team, both male and female, with the wide range of skills to support them!”

The rate of female entrepreneurship in UK franchising as a whole is well above that of SMEs, with females equating to 37% of all new franchise partners and 65% of all franchise employees during 2018. With organisations and initiatives such as Encouraging Women in Franchising (EWIF), the British Franchise Association’s Empowering Women in Business events, and various female-specific franchise awards, the franchise community as a whole is a one-step ahead when it comes to encouraging female uptake in business.

Radfield Home Care’s first franchise in Havering, Essex was launched by business partners, Jennie Bardrick and Lisa Cable. They had both led successful careers working in senior roles in finance and business, both in the UK and internationally, but both felt the next natural step for them was to take control of their own destiny and launch their own business:

“We have both experienced fantastic careers in the corporate world. However, we were looking to set up something of our own, that would make the best use of our experience, yet bring something special to the community. We both love meeting people and helping others, and for the last few years we have been seeking out the right opportunity to start something new, which was aligned with our values.”

“A franchise model removes the unknown. With the added value of working with an experienced franchisor, there’s a greater likelihood of business success. The clear focus on the quality of care being provided by Radfield was key to attracting us to the opportunity, along with the obvious passion we felt from the team. Throughout our franchise journey, our initial views have been constantly reinforced. Radfield has a clear view of what it wants to achieve which is supported by strong leadership.”

Trading for two years, Radfield Home Care Havering is now one of the Radfield network’s largest operations and is continuing to grow month-on-month.

If you are considering the next step on your career path and think you could be the next Jennie and Lisa, Radfield Home Care is currently accepting applications for its next selection of franchise partners across the UK.
