Dr Hannah MacKechnie grew up in the Radfield Residential Home for older people in Shrewsbury. Her parents had established the home when she was six years old. Growing up alongside the elderly residents, and later working as a carer in the home herself, gave Hannah a unique insight into the care needs of elderly people. It enabled her to witness at first hand the positive difference that high quality care could make to the needs of vulnerable people.

This experience shaped Hannah’s decision to study medicine at the University of Birmingham and subsequently train to become a general practitioner. While working as a GP, Hannah encountered many elderly clients who were not getting the high quality care that they deserved. She recognised there was a gap in the market for a care services provider dedicated to the needs of elderly people based on a firm commitment to respect, kindness and dignity.

On returning to her home town of Shrewsbury in 2008, Hannah established Radfield Home Care, alongside her brother, Alex Green. The aim was to offer their elderly clients an exceptional service, built upon their own insights from growing up in Radfield Residential Home, with Hannah’s extensive medical knowledge and caring experiences.

Alex Green

Alex Green grew up with Hannah in the Radfield Residential Home for older people. It was a unique childhood, and one which instilled a great sense of respect for, and a real understanding of, issues that affect people as they get older.

Alex Green Director HeadshotAfter graduating from the University of Manchester, Alex began his career in the financial sector, working as a financial advisor at HSBC and Halifax, helping personal and corporate clients to manage their financial affairs. Alex also used his financial knowledge to assist others by undertaking voluntary work in debt advisory for the Citizens Advice Bureau.

In 2003, Alex turned his talents to the media and became Managing Director of the community radio station ALL FM in Manchester and grew it from a small pilot organisation to a main community radio station serving South, Central and East Manchester.

Alex moved back to Shropshire in 2008 to establish Radfield Home Care alongside his sister. After a very successful launch and their first year of trading in Shrewsbury, Alex and Hannah began to develop the Radfield Home Care branch network, which includes branches in Stafford, Worcester and Chester and subsequently the Radfield Home Care Franchise business.
